Who We Are
The Opportunity
We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Audio, Video, and Security System Technician positions in the Network and Infrastructure Support Division (NISD). Positions allocable to this journey-level class typically report to an Audio, Video, and Security Systems Technician Supervisor, and may receive technical guidance from a journey-level or higher network systems administrator, or telecommunications systems engineer.
These positions require incumbents to exercise knowledge of the protocols, procedures, techniques and equipment used to install, configure, test, maintain and repair audio, video and security systems, and related equipment used for public address, audio and video intercommunications, closed-circuit television (CCTV), access control, intrusion detection, life and safety monitoring, and audio and video teleconferencing.
Incumbents frequently lift tools, supplies and equipment weighing 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally over 25 pounds. Equipment installation, repair and replacement duties require incumbents to regularly use 6-foot and taller ladders, and perform tasks that require bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Physical dexterity, color perception, and visual acuity are required for working with color-coded wires and cables.
- Installs and maintains closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and peripheral equipment.
- Installs and maintains Videoconferencing equipment.
- Installs patches to Microsoft Hubs and WebEx boards.
- Operates high-definition (HD) camera that provides streaming using various platforms such as MS Teams, WebEx, and Zoom.

Three years of experience in the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and repair of audio, intercom, closed-circuit television, and security systems and related equipment used in commercial, industrial or institutional settings, one year of which must have been at the journey-level*.
Special Requirement Information:
*Journey-level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full-range of diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.
License:
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related functions.
Physical Expectations:
3 - Moderate: Includes standing or waking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10 - 25 pounds.
Vision:
Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions.Our Assessment Process
If you meet the requirements, we will invite you to participate in a written exam weighted at 100% covering knowledge on audio-visual concepts and video technology.
You must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the assessment in order to be added onto the register of eligible candidates.
THE WRITTEN TEST IS NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

No person may compete for this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

Eligibility Information:
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the assessment will be placed on the Eligible Register for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation. Passing this examination and being placed on the Eligible Register do not guarantee an offer of employment.
