ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN
Interviews will be beginning the week of January 22, 2024. Job offers for selected candidates will be made the week of February 5, 2024.
THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $48,360.00. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.
The County of San Diego is currently accepting job applications for Environmental Health Technician. This is the paraprofessional level class in the Environmental Health Specialist series.
Environmental Health Technicians assist professional staff in the enforcement of environmental health compliance measures and perform technical tasks related to environmental health regulatory activities.

Minimum Qualifications
- An associate of science degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in biology, microbiology, zoology, chemistry, or a closely related field; OR,
- One (1) year of laboratory experience performing semi-technical tests on specimens and reagents; OR,
- One (1) year of experience as a Vector Control Technician Aide in the County of San Diego; OR,
- Two (2) years of experience providing direct support in a technical environmental health field.
The most highly qualified candidates, based on the evaluation results, will be referred for an interview. Be sure to include your experience in meeting the minimum requirements in both the Work Experience section and the Supplemental Questionnaire section of the Application.

- Job Offer and Background Process begins in February 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
