Company Description:

Creature is on a journey to create an alternative delivery platform to the traditional Architect, Engineering, Construction Industry (AEC). Creature has integrated Design, Construction, Plumbing, and HVAC components to support the Design, Manufacture, Construct (DMC) delivery platform. We are currently focused on scaling our offering across the country in the healthcare market utilizing volumetric premanufactured modules.


Position Overview:

We are seeking an ambitious and capable Controller looking to advance their career within the commercial construction industry. This key role provides a unique opportunity to not only manage our company's financial operations but also help shape the strategic direction of our business. Your tasks will include financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and analysis while ensuring compliance with GAAP, relevant regulations, and industry standards. This role requires exceptional financial acumen and a deep understanding of the commercial construction industry, specifically the specialty trades.


Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and execute a financial strategy to support the company's objectives, growth plans, and long-term sustainability.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and his executive team to establish financial goals and objectives, and provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and market trends.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, statements, and forecasts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and present findings to the CEO.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with the CEO and his department heads to establish realistic and achievable financial targets.
  • Monitor overhead budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions to ensure financial goals are met.

Financial Operations:

  • Responsible for day-to-day financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger activities. Complete banking deposits for Corporation and CEO.
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the PM team to ensure all job cost is updated on a weekly basis and is accurately coded to the proper job/cost code.
  • Prepare and/or review all bank and balance sheet reconciliations and provide guidance on expense policies, including tax compliance.
  • Maintain proper processes to ensure timely payment of payroll and corporate taxes as well as timely and accurate updates of fixed-asset subsidiary records and related reporting and analysis for property tax and insurance purposes.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, accounting principles, and industry standards.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management practices and internal controls.

Strategic Decision Support:

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making, including investments, cost optimization, pricing strategies, and business development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and his accountants to evaluate the financial viability of potential projects or acquisitions.

Team Leadership:

  • Mentor an accounting team and foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • CPA or CMA certification is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Controller or similar financial role within the commercial construction or specialty trades industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Sage 300, Procore ERP, financial management software, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
