General Purpose of the Position |
Responsible for a variety of functions within the Accounting Department including month-end financial report preparation, monthly reconciliations and the compilation and analysis of data to be used in the accounting, regulatory reporting and financial reporting functions of the credit union. Applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and supports the credit unions operating objectives by creating and maintaining accurate and relevant financial data and reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (includes the following). May perform other duties as requested or assigned.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and credit union policies.
- Participates in the preparation and submission of regulatory reports including quarterly Call Report (Form 5300) required by the NCUA.
- Participates in activities related to the month-end closing process, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation and variance explanations.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to support the Accounting Manager, Senior Managers, and Board of Directors in making operational and strategic decisions. Coordinates data gathering with other departments as needed.
- Assists with maintaining the ProfitStar system including report writing and financial statement generation
- Assists with the accounting of the Companys investment portfolio, including:
- Monthly account reconciliation
- Recording and tracking paydowns and settlements.
- Scheduling of cash settlements (purchases, sales, calls, etc.)
- Assists with the accounting of the derivatives portfolio including:
- Monthly account reconciliation
- Collateral monitoring
- Posting required journal entries
- Manages the credit unions fixed assets process including recording newly acquired assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets
- Assists with researching technical accounting issues to ensure accounting treatment is in accordance with GAAP, NCUA regulations and credit union policy and posts entries.
- Maintains the financial records of, and produces financial statements for, the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation.
- Utilizes spreadsheets and other systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Works with Accounting Manager to identify and implement process improvements.
- Assists with departmental and organizational projects as directed by the Accounting Manager.
- Develops an overall understanding of the strategic and tactical operations of the credit union. This includes understanding the needs of members, employees and the credit union.
- Establishes, modifies, documents and coordinates implementation of accounting procedures.
- Provides excellent service by demonstrating courtesy and personal concern for members and coworkers needs and followsup to ensure those needs are met.
- Adheres to all Federal and State laws and regulations applicable to the credit union, including the Bank Secrecy Act and OFAC.
- Responsible for compliance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA), the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and the Anti Money Laundering Act, including monitoring for such illegal activity as it applies to this position.
- Compiles data for auditors and examiners and provides explanations as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in accounting and a minimum of three years prior experience in accounting or auditing. Experience in the financial services industry is preferred; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Technical knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, practices, procedures and financial reports. Understanding of related regulations, statutes, and filing requirements. Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial analysis skills, a quick learner. Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines. Ability to apply verbal, written and interpersonal skills that develop member, employee and volunteer confidence, respect and trust in Credit Union of Colorado and develop cooperative relationships with all levels of employees throughout the organization. Working knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and Access. Knowledge of the Symitar, ProfitStar, and Sage Fixed Assets systems and other related computer applications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to sit for long periods. The employee continually is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop and reach with hands and arms. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Salary : $73,900 - $107,300
