 JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Credit Specialist manages a wide variety of credit and collection functions.  The Credit Specialist will interact by phone, electronically and in person with Cross customers and Cross associates at all levels and locations and credit and risk mitigation resources including NACM members, outside Credit professionals, collection agencies and attorneys. The Credit Specialist II will manage a variety of accounts including larger dollar volume accounts for Cross Company. 

The Credit Specialist will support the Corporate Credit Manager in maintaining our corporate objectives for collections, accounts receivable, and new account setup. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Collection of Accounts Receivable 

  1. Call Customers regarding delinquent accounts

  2. Monitor the credit release screen to determine why orders are on hold and initiate the action necessary to eliminate orders being placed on hold. (collection calls for accounts that are on hold due to past due invoices, financial analysis and credit line review for accounts that are on hold due to the credit line being exceeded).

  3. Research and provide necessary documentation to facilitate payment

  4. Follow-up on commitments from customers

  5. Research and contact customer on payment discrepancies                                         

B. Perform Credit Evaluations on accounts

  1. Perform in-depth analysis of the information received for new accounts and evaluating established accounts

  2. Communicate with sales staff and Credit Manager concerning “at risk” accounts

  3. Manage and Monitor credit lines and perform an annual financial review              

C. Communicate with major customers regarding account activity 

  1. Generate a “hit list” of delinquent accounts and take the appropriate action to minimize risks.           

  2. Perform new and existing account maintenance. (Establish or review credit lines, update customer master with contact information, and any information that we have available i.e. Dun’s number, Fed ID etc.)

  3. Perform special invoicing – web invoicing and pro-forma invoicing as required.

  4. Negotiate payment arrangements as needed. Long term arrangements should be discussed and reviewed with the Credit Manager. All effort should be made to obtain a Promissory Note when a long term arrangement occurs.

  5. Answer and respond to customer calls and emails promptly (proof of deliveries, invoice copies, etc.)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A. Education and Experience

  1. High school degree and two years college preferred

  2. NACM Certification preferred

  3. 5 years of experience in an office environment, preferably in accounting or credit function

B. Knowledge Required

  1. Understanding of basic accounting principles and financial analysis.

  2. PC literate in Microsoft office and G-Suite      

  C. Specific Attributes

  1. Ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly both verbally and in writing. Possess a pleasant telephone voice and manner.

  2. Above average math skills

  3. Ability to analyze a problem and recommend a reasonable solution

  4. Possess above average organizational skills and demonstrate effective use of

  5. related tools

  6. Ability to effectively negotiate a solution with a customer (internal or external) that results in a win-win for them and our company

  7. Willing to take personal responsibility regarding job performance and require limited supervision
