Position Overview
The Controller (Construction) is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the construction division, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining effective financial controls. This role will support strategic decision-making through comprehensive financial analysis and management of work in progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the financial aspects of construction projects including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on WIP and job costing
- Oversee month-end close processes and ensure the accuracy of financial statements
- Prepare detailed margin reports and revenue recognition analyses
- Coordinate and manage payroll processes for construction staff and union employees
- Conduct audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax requirements
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support project managers and senior leadership
- Utilize Procore and other financial systems to streamline financial operations and reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of work in progress (WIP) accounting and job costing
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software is preferred
- CPA certification is a plus
- Proficient in financial reporting, month end close, payroll, audit, and tax processes
- Excellent analytical skills with a focus on financial statement analysis and margin reporting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
