Psychiatrist
Position Purpose
Under the direction of the Director of Behavioral Health the Psychiatrist serves as a member of our Behavioral Health Team. The team includes psychiatrists, psychotherapists and substance use counselors, who work as part of the integrated model of care. The psychiatrist will utilize their skills to provide initial psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management for patients and will also provide consultation as needed to other medical providers, nursing staff and case managers.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide initial psychiatric assessments and ongoing psychiatric medication management;
- Referral to additional services, including psychotherapy, addiction counseling, mental health treatment and support groups as indicated;
- Referral to higher level of care if/as indicated;
- Provide crisis intervention services if needed;
- Accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic health Record (same-day documentation) including EPIC and ARIES as indicated, of all services rendered, including assessment, treatment and referrals;
- Ensure that all required data collected for input into EPIC or ARIES is complete and represents an accurate accounting of services performed;
- Maintain excellent working relationship with all DAP Behavioral Health and Medical Clinic staff to ensure continuity of care to all patients served;
- Receives clinical oversight from Chief Medical Officer or his/her designee.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provides supervisory oversight of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent clinical skills
- Desire and ability to teach
- Experience with supervision of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners
Required Education and Experience
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree;
- Successful completion of a residency program in psychiatry;
- Active DEA licensure;
- Active BLS Certification;
- Active/current board certification in Psychiatry
- Expertise in mental health diagnosis and prescription of psychotropic medications;
- Experience working with a complex patient population, including those with comorbid medical conditions
- Experience working with patients with co-existing substance abuse disorders;
- Ability to work well as part of an interdisciplinary team;
- Experience working in an FQHC;
- Experience working with LGBTQ population;
- Experience working with homeless population;
- Effectively and efficiently utilize an Electronic Medical Records system.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience working in the not-for-profit environment preferred.
- Experience working with EPIC electronic medical record preferred
- Knowledge and experience working with HIV patients preferred
- Transgender competency preferred
