JOB OVERVIEW:
Darden is seeking a strategic and proactive Manager of Government Relations to strengthen our voice and influence at the state and local levels across the Western United States. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in legislative engagement, policy communication, and relationship management. This role is instrumental in advancing Darden’s business priorities by anticipating risks, shaping policy outcomes, and building strong alliances with key stakeholders.
Reporting to the Vice President of Government Affairs, this position collaborates closely with internal subject matter experts, trade associations, and external consultants to drive impactful advocacy and protect our business model.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with lawmakers, regulators, and key stakeholders in priority markets.
- Position Darden as a leading employer, economic contributor, and industry voice.
- Translate complex legislative and regulatory issues into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders.
- Develop and execute proactive advocacy strategies to mitigate risks and advance business objectives.
- Monitor and respond to emerging policy threats and opportunities aligned with company priorities.
- Cultivate allies and champions for Darden’s legislative and regulatory initiatives.
- Be consistently engaged and visible at state and local government centers in priority markets to advocate for Darden’s priorities.
- Attend and contribute to relevant conferences and events to strengthen Darden’s relationships and advocacy impact.
- Demonstrate measurable business value through advocacy, including cost avoidance and improved operating conditions.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- 5 years of experience in corporate government affairs, trade association or legislative staff
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree
OTHER KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong understanding of compliance laws related to lobbying and political contributions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- High political acumen and ability to navigate complex political environments.
- Self-starter with strong organizational skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
PREFFERED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience managing multi-state government relations.
- Background in retail, restaurant, or hospitality policy.
- Proven track record of delivering business value through advocacy (e.g., cost savings, regulatory relief).
