The Associate Director of Community Life (ADCL) reports directly to the Director of Community Life and is responsible for upholding the policies as set forth by the Board of Directors. The purpose of the position is to provide management, direction, and oversight to Emergency Shelter Services located at Denver Rescue Mission owned facility at the City of Denver owned facilities, keeping the Director of Emergency Shelter Services aware of challenges and issues that may arise. Escalate issues that involve Denver Department of HOST, media and High and High Sensitive issues to the Director’s attention in a timely manner. The shifts may vary due to Emergency Shelter needs.
The ADCL is a full-time exempt position of Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) which must agree with and abide by our Statement of Faith and Ministry Principles. In addition, all employees must comply with policies as summarized in the DRM Employee Handbook.
Hiring Range: $55,100.00 - $69,000.00 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations and Administrative Duties
- Under the direction of the Director of Emergency Shelter Services, work with the City of Denver and other Community partners to offer shelter services and resources.
- For city owned properties, coordinate repairs and issue resolution through communication with various departments in the City of Denver, including the Facilities Department, IT Department and others as needed.
- Work with the Accounting Department to complete Time and Effort reports for the City of Denver billing and submit relevant invoices in a timely manner
- Coordinate with the City of Denver and the contracted bus company to resolve issues as they relate to bus transportation to and from facilities.
- Provide the work hours needed to serve the poor and needy with staff, participants and volunteers to ensure DRM continues strong community relations.
- Ensure all necessary supplies are on-hand to operate each facility – including cleaning supplies, sheets, blankets, towels, mats/mattresses, furniture, etc.
- Coordinate the delivery of supplies to shelters with MOC.
- Work with the DRM Maintenance Department and contracted shelter contacts to address any maintenance issues in a timely manner a DRM properties.
- In cooperation with the Director, approve timecards for all Emergency Shelter Services staff assigned to remote shelters
- Serve as “Safety Coordinator” for Emergency Shelter locations, or appoint appropriate staff – serving on DRM’s Safety Council and working alongside Operations staff from other DRM facilities, insuring the overall safety and security of the Overflow Shelters.
- Attend internal and community meetings as assigned.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Emergency Shelter Services.
- Through supervision of the Emergency Services Coordinator staff team, manage Services for both sites and all shifts
- Daytime: Coordinate cleaning, laundry service, and other functions as they pertain to the upkeep of the shelters.
- Plan and implement shelter exits, coordinating as needed with LSCC staff and contracted busing company
- Evening - shelter bed/mat assignments and check-in
- Remote shelter transportation
- Oversee Shelter statistics, ensuring that statistics are entered into SCRIBE daily; and that appropriate nightly reports are made available to the appropriate entities.
- Oversee staff use of SCRIBE and HMIS, ensuring the proper use and certification for both platforms
- Work with Operations team to update and implement appropriate reports
- Work with the DRM IT team to provide appropriate support and equipment for utilization of SCRIBE and HMIS
- Provide oversight for sheltering services during inclement weather
Safety and Cleanliness
- Manage the ESC team in utilizing De-escalation techniques in response to those resistant to staff, including tracking the training for Decoding conflict on a monthly basis.
- Through personal efforts and/or supervision of the Emergency Services Coordinator staff team:
- Ensure that the perimeter of shelter sites are free from loitering, encampments, distractions, etc. to the best of our legal ability, bringing campsites to the attention of the Director.
- Ensure that ESCs provide oversight to guests leaving the facility adhere to neighborhood agreements
- Ensure that check-in/entrance and exit of shelter guests are maintained according to policies and procedures.
- Ensure policies and procedures are upheld for each facility and associated services.
- Ensure that the interior of each facility, including common areas, chapels/classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, etc. are kept free of trash and personal belongings, and are cleaned on a scheduled basis.
- Ensure that bedding and towels are clean and available for guest use.
- Coordinate cleaning for contracted sites with the assigned vendors.
- Coordinate the daily cleaning by DRM Operations custodial team where applicable.
- Coordinate laundry operations at both shelter sites for both commercial and residential.
- Coordinate meal service with vendors and/or DRM kitchen personnel at each shelter site
- Work closely with the volunteer department to see that servers for each meal are available.
Supervision of Staff
- Provide direct supervision to team leads for supervision of Emergency Shelter Services staff, including daytime and overnight staff, bringing any areas of concern to the attention of the Director of Emergency Shelter Services. This includes Emergency Services Coordinators as assigned
- Under the advisement of the Director, coordinate with Human Resources to hire and onboard new employees; providing appropriate training to new staff
- Under the direction of the Director, schedule assigned shifts to provide appropriate coverage for all shifts at the facility
- Complete employee payroll functions approving request for time off and payroll approvals.
- Hold individual meetings with Emergency Shelter Services staff members, focused on their individual job performance and their professional development.
- Conduct employee 90 day and annual reviews, submitting them to the Director of Emergency Shelter Services for approval; address performance issues through the Progressive Disciplinary process under the advisement of the Director of Emergency Shelter Services and Human Resources.
Requirements
- B.A. or comparable degree in Business, Education, Human Services or related field – or equivalent work experience.
- Previous experience in related field of endeavor preferred.
- Previous successful people and process management experience.
- Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct
- Ability to manage, develop and train staff residents for their work roles.
- Must be a self-starter who is highly organized, able to prioritize, and highly flexible/adaptable
- Willing and able to accept feedback
- Able to maintain appropriate personal and professional boundaries
- Holds appropriate expectations for an emergency/support services environment and its clientele.
- Must possess a heart for ministry to low-income population.
- Strong computer experience with proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook and databases.
- Must be willing to work a forty-hour work week with a minimum of 40% of time devoted to hours when Shelter is actively operating from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Shelter operations are overnight, 365 days/year. However, the administrative duties take place during normal business hours. The person in this role will need to manage their schedule to meet these needs.
