Coordinates and oversees all educational aspects of hall management, including staff training and supervision, student issue response, student learning opportunities, conduct procedures and crisis response.
Addresses student and parent concerns in order to resolve them in a timely manner. Provides guidance and support to Resident Advisors as they respond to issues in their community.
Attends, conducts and coordinates all student staff training including, but not limited to: spring seminars, summer online modules, and fall and winter training.
Responsible for the overall implementation of comprehensive programs as a part of Residential Education Learning Initiatives (RELI).
Serves on departmental, Student Affairs, and/or university committees. Work with Facilities Area Coordinators and other Department of Housing Services staff on issues such as work orders, facilities inspections, and lockouts.
Facilitates response related to student welfare and student conduct and frequently uses independent judgment to make decisions.
Responsible for the oversight and management of an operating budget that ranges from $13,000 to $18,000.
Encourages an environment that is supportive of identity, inclusion, and social change.
Your Education & Experience
- Master’s degree in student development, higher education, counseling or related field is required.
- Residential Education experience with a strong emphasis in programming and training, or an equivalent amount of education and experience is strongly preferred.
Managerial Responsibilities
- The Residence Director supervises, trains and evaluates 6 to 14 Resident Advisors and provides direction to 1 Student Office Assistant. Staff supervision is 20% of position responsibilities.
Financial Responsibilities
- The Residence Director has responsibility for the oversight and management of an operating budget that ranges from $13,000 to $18,000.
Other Skills & Abilities Required
- The Residence Director is responsible for responding to emergency situations as needed. Cell phone coverage is expected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The ability to hear and respond to a telephone call after hours is essential.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work and make decisions in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Ability to effectively interact with students, parents, colleagues, staff and faculty.
- Ability to effectively interact with the professional and paraprofessional staff in the department and division.
- Ability to provide both a student-centered and a customer service experience.
- Ability to demonstrate ongoing commitment to identity, inclusion and social change.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Windows.
