What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coder I position at Desert Oasis Healthcare?
Responsible for performing Auditing and Coding functions for Desert Oasis Healthcare providers.
- Take responsibility and ownership on coding projects as assigned. Work with other team members as assigned to project and ensure completion. May need to coordinate with provider office for chart pull and audit.
- Insure that coding is to the highest level of specificity and accuracy.
- Code discharge summaries and hospital encounter logs.
- Audit ER claims for payment based on correct evaluation and management guidelines.
- Review documentation for appeals.
- Conducts medical record documentation review for appropriate E&M and ICD-10 coding, either in the coding office or providers office.
- Reviews hospital charge slips and encounters for ICD-10 specificity and applicable CPT coding.
- Keeps current on all governmental medical and legal issues specific to coding and compliance.
- Responsible for sharing knowledge of issues with management staff
- Works with all providers, staff and management insuring that correct coding policies are followed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year coding or directly related medical experience or completion of a formal coding training program, or CPC-A.
- Knowledge of ICD 10 and HCC codes preferred.
- Excellent computer skills using Windows based programs.
- Able to work independently and within time constraints.
- Able to interact effectively with providers and office staff to achieve goals.
- Valid California drivers’ license and proof of insurance.
