The Principal Project Manager leads the end-to-end execution of complex, safety-critical product development and sustaining projects across Det-Tronics’ flame, gas, and control systems portfolio. This role owns scope, schedule, resources, and risk—driving cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality electromechanical products on time, on budget, and in compliance with regulated life-safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a portfolio of product development and sustaining projects from initiation to closure & launch.
- Lead and influence matrixed cross-functional teams (Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Regulatory).
- Define project scope, priorities, and tradeoffs; integrate new initiatives into an active portfolio.
- Build and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, KPIs, and resource forecasts.
- Identify, mitigate, and escalate technical, schedule, cost, and compliance risks.
- Ensure adherence to stage-gate development processes, quality systems, and regulatory requirements for safety-critical products.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with leadership and stakeholders on status, risks, and decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
- 10 years of project or program management experience delivering electromechanical products in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven success leading end to end product development through structured stage-gate governance.
- Experience operating in regulated and/or life safety product environments.
- Strong ability to lead without authority, influence cross-functional teams, and drive accountability.
- Demonstrated strength in risk management, execution discipline, and stakeholder communication.
- Proficiency with standard project and collaboration tools (MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams/SharePoint).
- Advanced degree (MS, MBA).
- PMP or formal project management certification.
- Experience with fire, gas detection, or industrial safety products.
- Familiarity with Agile tools or hybrid environments (Jira, Confluence).
- Strong executive-level presentation and data-synthesis skills.
