What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus/Van Driver position at Developmental Preschool and Day Care Center?

Either way, if you are looking to help make a difference in children's lives, come drive a van for Developmental Preschool. Additional help is needed to transport children to and from school during the school year. Position is for 13-15 hours per week, 37 weeks per year. Due to insurance requirements, candidates must be at least 23 years old.
BUS/VAN DRIVER
I) INTRODUCTION:
Under the general administrative supervision of the Executive Director and working directly with the Special Education Coordinator and LEAF Program Coordinator, performs child transportation duties throughout the day. Position is a split shift, with bus runs from 7:15-8:15 AM, 11:00-Noon, and 2:30-3:30 PM M-Th and 2:30-3:30 PM on Fridays (unless public school is on early release then 11-Noon on those days). Additional hours can be made available if interested in working in other areas of our program.
II) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Safely transport all students requiring transportation to and from Developmental Preschool and/or LEAF as scheduled by various staff.
2) Follow all traffic laws while transporting children, including wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits and school zones.
3) Ensure each child being transported is in appropriate car/booster seat if under 9 years old and is appropriately buckled up at all times. It is important to check each student at each stop to ensure they have not unbuckled through the course of the trip.
III) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED. Must be 23 years of age to transport children due to insurance requirements. Clean motor vehicle record and background check required. CDL or ability to obtain is preferred. Willingness and ability to work around young children.
IV) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to safely drive/operate large passenger vans. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and speaking with a variety of audiences including other staff, parents, professionals and community members. Must understand the federal and state statues and interpret rules and procedures. Should be organized and be able to work independently. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 50 pounds, and be agile in bending, walking, other positions necessary for performance of the job. Must understand proper installation and use of a variety of car seats. Must follow all traffic laws to safely transport children.
