Summary: The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource office and advisement of the Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs. The HR Generalist has a high level of responsibility and provides support to the Director in the following functional areas: new hires of talent, onboarding, Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, employee professional development, compensation, data reporting, and employment incentives and recognition.
Essential Duties and Functions
- Assist the Director in managing the day-to-day operation of the HR department’s workflow and processes.
- Assist the Director with employee grievances, counseling, and investigations.
- Serve as the division and department liaison for the search and selection process by collecting, distributing, and maintaining resumes and applications.
- Responsible for entering, managing, and maintaining Personnel Action Forms (PAF/EPAF), employment information, and data in the Human Resources Information Systems.
- Oversight of the HR personnel files to ensure that files are compliant with federal, state, and third-party requirements.
- Assist in managing the human resources files for new hires, transfers, and other employment activities.
- Manages the maintenance of the Human Resources sections of both the Internet and Intranet sites, particularly regarding matter of recruiting, employment information, employer-sponsored events, and employee relations information sent out to the University.
- Maintains HRIS database and prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department and company. Also prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested.
- Process purchasing requisitions in Jenzabar for payment of invoices and check requests.
- Assist in the planning and execution of employer-sponsored events, professional development training, and wellness activities.
- Assist in data preparations and pulling files for internal and external audits.
- Manage the new hire applicant tracking, background screening, and onboarding process.
- Prepared, proofread, and edit routine correspondence.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of HR
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, and/or related field. Five years of professional experience as a human resource generalist, specialist, or coordinator can be substituted for education.
Supervision:
This role may be required to supervise work-study students or student interns as directed.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registration
HR/SHRM Certified. Active Membership in CUPA-HR is a plus!

Work Environment:
The work environment described here is representative of working conditions an employee may encounters while performing the essential duties and functions. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate. There are repetitive movements (typing, assembly operations, etc.) and prolonged sitting or standing in one position (without choice) in a closed environment. Concentrated visual, auditory, or other forms of sensory attention are expected. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
