What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respite Coordinator Assistant position at Disabled Persons Action Organization, Inc.?
Disabled Persons Action Organization has an immediate opening for an Assistant Coordinator in our Short Term Respite/Free Standing Respite Program. The prospective employee will work 35 hours weekly, with the days/hours varying to meet the needs of the program. This may include day shifts, evening shifts, and 1-2 weekend activities per month.
After a successful 90 day introductory period, a generous paid time off package will be available to include vacation time, personal time, sick time and several paid holidays, as well as benefits which are available through payroll deductions. An agency-funded pension plan is available after 3 years of continuous employment. Rate will also increase to $17.50 per hour.
Program Information/Job Description: Assists the Program Coordinator with executing all activities, activity planning, ensuring adequate staffing for the needs of the program. Provides relief to individuals who are responsible for the primary care and support of consumers when a family member has to deal with such things as an illness, emergency, vacation or just the daily stress of taking care of a family member with a disability, respite services are intended to ensure that the consumers’ basic needs are fulfilled. The program staff makes the individual's stay as relaxing, and as much fun as possible. Examples of activities include, but are not limited to: swimming, bowling, attending community events, going to the movies (“Movie Night”), holiday dances & celebrations, participation in parades, exercise including Zumba and Tai Chi, and many more as scheduled by the Coordinator of the program.
Education/Experience Requirements:
1. Possession of a high school diploma OR equivalency with two (2) years of experience working with the developmentally disabled or a similar field.
2. Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of the supervision of children and adults with developmental disabilities.
3. Good written, verbal and organization skills.
4. Physically able to do direct care. (Some heavy lifting involved)
5. Prospective employee MUST have a valid Driver License and ability to transport individuals in Agency Vehicles. Must have a favorable driving record.
Employment is contingent upon background checks through Medicaid Exclusion lists, the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, the New York State Justice Center and the New York State Office for Children & Family Services.
