Under general supervision, the Tax Staff Accountant II will be responsible for contributing to the day-to-day accounting activities related to direct tax, providing support to the Manager of Direct Tax and Vice President of Tax, and ensuring compliance with all tax filings and deadlines. This role is also responsible for completing tax schedules, compiling tax returns, analyzing tax data, and assisting with the preparation of tax provisions and estimates.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Analyze company financial and tax records to ensure compliance with income and franchise tax returns.
• Gather, summarize, calculate, and explain a variety of income tax positions, for various periods of time.
• Analyze tax data and identify areas of tax exposure or risk, providing recommendations to management and leadership to mitigate these risks.
• Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations and requirements.
• Create supporting schedules for income tax returns including depreciation reporting and apportionment schedules.
• Prepare tax return compliance forms using CCH tax return preparation software and Excel workpapers.
• Updates personal job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
• Keep up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations and adjust policies and procedures accordingly.

Qualifications

• This position requires a minimum of two years of income tax (direct tax) and accounting experience. Previous income tax and accounting experience with and/or for private companies is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Internal Revenue Code and Regulations, general ledger accounting for preparation of internal, non-audited financial statements, private entity tax return preparation, book/tax differences for operating companies, fixed assets and depreciation, multi-state income and franchise tax matters, including apportionment, and Microsoft Excel and Word.
• The ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet deadlines, and present a professional demeanor is essential.
• The ability to work independently and in a team, multi-task, and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines simultaneously are required.
• Customer service skills, including the ability to manage and respond to different customer situations while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude are essential.
• Understanding of confidentiality.
• Skilled at researching tax issues and writing memos.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field or equivalent experience is required.
• Desire to obtain a Master’s degree in Taxation and/or CPA license encouraged
  
  

Work Days

• Normal work days are Monday through Friday. Occasional Saturdays and Sundays may be necessary.
  
  

Work Hours

• Normal work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be necessary.
