Position Summary:
Discovery Life Sciences is a trusted provider of bioanalytic and biospecimen services to hundreds of customers across the U.S. and around the world. The scientific project manager contributes to our mission by managing clinical studies involving special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC) or in-situ hybridization (ISH) in the IHC laboratory.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in life sciences discipline
Certifications/License/Registration Requirements :
- Project Management certificate a bonus, but not required
Qualification/Experience:
- 4 years in industry laboratory setting (or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the following: (i)histopathology laboratory processes; (ii) routine and special immunohistochemistry (IHC) studies; (iii) troubleshooting IHC assay development; (iv) microscopic assessment of images and microscopic slides of human and/or animal tissue; (v) management of research projects; and (vi) regulatory guidelines, such as FDA, ISO, CLIA, Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GcLP).
Essential Duties/Responsibilities :
- Responsible for designing and conducting laboratory experiments, including coordinating project requirements, writing proposals, and maintaining required regulatory documentation.
- Monitor and manage scope, forecast, resources, and deliverables for system-wide projects, assay development, and the introduction of new assays under development.
- Identify technical requirements, develop antibody optimization plan, and validate the assay to instruct others.
- Coordinate with various departments for test and control slides and patient samples.
- Communicate with the sponsor for technical coordination of project requirements.
- Stain tissue samples using immunohistochemistry (IHC) techniques, score samples, and generate reports detailing scoring data and experimental results for study sponsors.
- Work with the pathologist to develop a scoring system for evaluation of required tissue types and diseases.
- Evaluate assay performance and provide input to reviews, corrective action, and other evaluations.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to laboratory personnel assigned to the project. Determine appropriate supplies for laboratory personnel.
- Ensure lab compliance with institutional and accrediting agency regulations, including the Food and Drug Administration’s Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and the Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GcLP).
Supervisory/ Line Management Responsibilities:
- Provide training to new hires (i.e lab technicians). If assigned lab assistants, providing direction, planning projects to assign tasks and feedback on performance.
