What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Educator position at East Carolina University?
The Community Educator position has the primary function to provide education through coordinating and conducting child abuse trainings, including the “Stewards of Children” curriculum. This child abuse prevention training is for adults who have a wide spectrum of understanding, from seasoned child care workers to members of the general community with very little to no knowledge about child abuse and neglect. The position requires facilitation of an established 2 1/2 Child Sexual Abuse prevention training for community agencies whose staff serve children such as public and private educators, day care providers, DSS staff, pediatric health care providers, faith-based centers, etc. Contacts will be made with agencies to schedule and conduct training sessions. Trainings for the community at large will also be offered for the general public and for college students.
The educational functions of the program encompass several levels, in all of which the Community
Educator will be a participant. These include: 1) at the preventive level, the education of community
providers about various aspects of child abuse and neglect; 2) education of students and residents on issues relevant to child abuse; 3) being a participant as part of the TEDI BEAR CAC as an
educational resource about child abuse prevention for providers in eastern North Carolina who have the responsibility of caring for children; 4). Provide policy guidance and education concerning appropriate procedures for child-serving agencies regarding child sexual abuse prevention.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field. Knowledge and experience training adults is preferred.
License or Certification Required by the Department
Will be required to be an authorized Stewards of Children Facilitator through Darkness 2 Light.

Salary : $27,300 - $34,600
