JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
The Bronx Haven High School partnership is comprised of a full-time New York City Department of Education Transfer School designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school.
East Side House Settlement is directly responsible for the administration of each schools Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the schools academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.
Under the supervision of the LTW Program Director and Assistant Director, with latitude for independent judgment, advisors will be responsible to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and ability required, but not limited to:
Essential Functions
Please note: Due to Covid-19, East Side House Settlement has determined that up to 40% (14 hours max.) of your duties and responsibilities can be done remotely. Things are subject to change based on confirmation of the fall re-opening model of schools. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct intake interviews with students and family members. Interviews may need to be conducted remotely via Department of Education-approved platforms.
- Meet with students in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career, and personal goals. Some individual and group work will require the usage of remote platforms, or socially distanced
- Conduct daily attendance outreach via phone, remotely, or socially distant as needed
- Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance
- Maintain student charts and records to ensure milestones are being met.
- Refer students to academic and support services as needed.
- Attend administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development. Meetings may require virtual attendance.
- Educating students and parents about colleges, the college admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing; advising students and families as they go through the process; and helping students and families aspire realistically and choose wisely
- Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House Community Development.
- Schedule & program student schedules in accordance with NYC DOE graduation requirements.
- Arrange and participate in special events, student-based projects and extracurricular activities.

Supervisory Responsibility
The role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Expected Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday: 8am 4pm. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESHs needs and pending school schedule.
Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position (on a need basis).
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Requisite Education & Experience
- B.A/ B.S.W. with at least two years experience with youth-related work.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, communication, organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task.
- Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community service/ development.
- Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word and other applications.
