Summary:
As Accounting Manager, this individual is responsible for managing the general ledger at a detailed level and for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. This role also supports various members of the finance team with balance sheet reconciliations, closing, and reporting issues. The position involves overseeing the technical accounting process of closing, reporting, and analysis, interacting with individuals at all levels within the organization, and having a direct impact on the business.
Responsibilities:
- Perform ongoing monthly account reconciliations, including remediation of open items, ensuring compliance with support documentation, and proper classification of balances to ensure financial integrity. Work to improve the balance sheet reconciliation process by reviewing, investigating, and correcting errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Review month-end balance sheet reconciliations performed by senior accountants.
- Review monthly financial statements, analyzing for unexpected variances in preparation for the CFO’s financial statement review.
- Responsible for various cost accounting functions, including monitoring and updating standard costs in the accounting system. This includes items with landed costs and working with Bill of Materials and component parts.
- Prepare, update, run, and distribute month-end commission reports for account managers and management. This reporting is generated from multiple Excel reports and requires careful attention to detail due to numerous links and formulas.
- Review daily billing batches for commission issues and address changes in the commission structure as needed.
- Update, run, and distribute monthly product reports to account and region managers.
- Review account managers' mileage as tracked by a mileage tracking system, investigate any unusual variances, update the quarterly auto allowance calculation, and provide new allowance amounts to HR for payroll.
- Collect customer contracts and rebate forms, calculate and prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and year-end rebates.
- Assist in preparing year-end reports to support external accountant reviews and tax preparation.
- Develop a technical understanding of the accounting modules and gain in-depth knowledge of business processes to recommend process improvements and perform various ad hoc analyses and special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 3-5 years of related experience with a basic knowledge of US GAAP, along with the desire to conduct appropriate research on topics, and familiarity with financial statements, general closing procedures, and internal controls. Public accounting experience is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The candidate must be able to effectively communicate with individuals across various functions within the organization.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve issues promptly, as well as the ability to gather and analyze information skillfully.
- The candidate must be self-directed, organized, and resourceful, expected to help design processes, find improvements, make recommendations, and implement changes.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with Great Plains, SSRS Reporting, and/or Microsoft Access is preferred.
Salary : $95,000 - $110,000
