Position Overview: The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day financial activities and ensuring accurate financial reporting. Position Overview: The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day financial activities and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role focuses on maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, overseeing cash and accounts payable/receivable, and supporting the Controller/CFO with audits, budgeting, and tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for various projects and operations.
- Monitor the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, job costing, and other accounting systems.
- Assist in the preparation of financial presentations for senior management.
- Oversee daily cash management for the respective division.
- Manage the processing of invoices, subcontractor payments, and vendor relationships.
- Review and approve purchase orders, contracts, and payment applications from contractors and suppliers.
- Ensure timely collection of receivables and monitor aging reports.
- Maintain job cost accounting for all ongoing projects.
- Monitor and report on project costs, budgets, and profitability.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure cost controls and budget adherence.
- Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll for all employees.
- Maintain payroll tax records and ensure compliance with federal and state payroll laws.
- Assist in the development and management of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
- Track budget variances and support the Controller in preparing budget-to-actual analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable financial regulations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal control policies and procedures.
- Support external auditors during audits and reviews.
- Tax and Regulatory Compliance:
- Prepare and file state and federal tax returns, including sales and use tax, payroll taxes, and property taxes.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal accounting regulations specific to the industry.
- Support the implementation and optimization of accounting software and ERP systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred but not required.
- Experience:
- 5 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a relevant industry.
- Strong knowledge of job costing and WIP (Work in Progress) reporting.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and tax regulations.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Primarily in-office with occasional travel to project sites as needed.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with deadlines to meet.
- Collaborative team setting, interacting with Project Managers, Executives, and External Auditors.
