Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact. This role will initially be in support of the design and delivery phase of the project as a part of the Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) team. As the site nears completion and start-up activities begin, this role will transition into a Lebanon Site role for long term operational support.
GPACE is part of Lilly’s Corporate Engineering Tech Center (ETC), and provides automation, measurement, and process control solutions. GPACE is a technical resource for training, standards, capital project delivery, and Lilly’s standard automation platforms. GPACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing and development sites, Corporate IT, and peer groups such as Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).
Responsibilities:
As the Automation Engineer - Utilities you will be designing, delivering and supporting the utilities and clean utilities necessary for a GMP drug substance manufacturing facility, including:
- Design and implement Utilities Automatic tools (Monitoring, Reporting) to assist with the management of utilities operations.
- Enable, support, and implement automation strategies for the integrations of utilities equipment (Chillers, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, Purified Water Generation, Waste Management, Solvent Recovery, etc) with the site main monitoring, management systems (DeltaV, PI).
- Support day to day Utilities Automated Systems operations during systems failures, equipment troubleshooting and event managements.
- Provides feedback and/or implement solutions focusing on improve utilities systems performance.
- Provide technical coaching and consultation to other Site Engineers, Technician and Operation supporters as needed.
- Support Projects and new equipment/technologies integrations to that might impact utilities infrastructure and capabilities.
- Keep current on external trends and practices to evaluate technology for application within Lilly.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science field
- Minimum 5 years experience in automation or process control
Additional Preferences:
- Demonstrated ability to work safely.
- Demonstrated expertise in two or more automation platforms (PLC, DCS, DDC, PAT), preferably Delta-V and Rockwell Automation Systems.
- Significant experience and strong problem-solving skills in measurements, control (process and/or manufacturing), control systems, integration, and data.
- Specific working experience with the following:
· Solvent Recovery (Azeotrope pressure swing distillation)
· Cryo-Condenser
· Building Management Systems (HVAC, Chill Water, Power, Security)
· Wastewater Management
· Purified water generation and distribution
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to work in teams to deliver and achieve project and sites objectives.
- Knowledge of GMP’s and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Operating Systems.
