We are currently recruiting for Billing and Coding Specialist for our behavioral health services.
Job Description: The Coding Clerk is responsible for supervision and control of correct patient registration practices, insurance billing, and correct coding. The position requires extensive contact with clinic registration personnel, clinic managers, and other clinic staff. Frequent contact with patients and/or their representatives concerning patient accounts. Routine contact with practice management vendors, insurance carriers other physicians' offices, collection agencies, and other hospital departments are necessary.
Essential Functions
- Assign coding E&M levels for primary care practices, common office procedures, and encounters. This includes diagnoses and procedures, using ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes.
- Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations.
- Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear.
- Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation.
- Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual.
- Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy.
- Review denials to correct coding errors and resolve claim errors.
Requirements:
Minimum Education
- High school diploma and successful completion of an accredited medical coding course.
- AAPC or AHIMA certification is desired, but not a requirement at the time of hire.
Minimum Work Experience
- Must have at least one year of experience doing Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding and/or billing primary care or specialty medicine.
Required Skills
- Extensive knowledge of CPC guidelines and applications
- Extensive knowledge of International Classification of Diseases guidelines for correctly coding outpatient diagnosis.
- Knowledge of all confidentiality requirements regarding patients and strict maintenance of proper confidentiality on all such information.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23,096.00 - $41,529.00 per year
