What are the responsibilities and job description for the Non-Sterile Prep Technician position at Empower Pharmacy?
The Non-Sterile Prep Technician is responsible for performing various tasks including collecting, washing, cleaning, drying and returning dishes, devices, tools and equipment parts to the designated area and ensure their cleanliness and sanitization. The prep technician is expected to work from predefined instructions as supplied by the shift supervisors and report discrepancies to management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Applies the proper method to neutralize hazardous chemicals before washing or cleaning items in the NS Hazardous Lab
- Wears proper PPE as needed including gloves, safety glasses, mask, respirator, gown, overall, hair net, beard cover, shoe cover and similar
- Understands which washing cycle to use depending on items to wash and loads, runs and unloads the Lancer washers with items and equipment parts used for compounding in a fast and efficient manner
- Ensures utmost care while loading and unloading the Lancer washing machines
- Determines which items are to be washed by hand and carefully hand cleans delicate items like glasses
- Ensures all items are clean and sanitized before putting them on drying racks
- Uses air pressure to dry the washed items
- Stacks the washed items in an organized manner and stores dried and cleaned items in the designated areas
- Maintains the Washroom area to insure it is clean, organized, sanitary and running throughout at peak performance
- Mops and sanitizes the washing room, floors and countertops at the end of each shift to keep safety and sanitation
- Sanitizes the work area at least twice per shift to prevent cross-contamination
- Maintains good personal hygiene
- Work extended hours when needed
- Follows the company’s guidelines and related SOPs and WIs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to read, understand and follow technical and written documents (SOPs)
- Ability to plan and follow a work schedule
- High-energy and initiative-taker
- Efficiently perform the job with little supervision
- English speaking for business communications
- Able to lift to 50 lbs. and stand during the shift
- Ability to respond to emergency situations to avoid endangering themselves and others
- Must be able to work in a hazardous drug setting
- Maintains good personal hygiene
- Ability to work extended hours when needed
Experience and Qualifications
- GDE or High School degree preferred but not mandatory
- Earlier experience working in a lab environment preferred but not mandatory
- 1 year of previous experience desired but not mandatory
