Who we are looking for...
We are seeking a Survey Crew Chief who will plan and evaluate proposed field survey projects, manage the field survey teams, prepare and coordinate the required field survey work and daily survey notes as part of public and private commercial, residential and industrial development projects based on client’s intent/vision, budget, timeline, jurisdictional requirements and community needs and concerns. In addition, the Survey Crew Chief will lead the company's field survey team in the field. The following skills will be required for this position:
- Assist in the setup and operation of surveying instruments, such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Assist in the collection of survey data including field notes, measurements, and observations.
- Follow instructions and guidance from senior crew members or surveyors to complete assigned tasks.
- Assist in the transportation and setup of survey equipment in the field.
- Provide general assistance to the survey crew as needed.
- Assist in the maintenance and care of surveying instruments, equipment, and tools.
- Report any equipment issues or needs to senior crew members or surveyors.
- Assist in the transfer and integration of field data into survey software or databases.
- Collaborate with senior crew members or surveyors to resolve data discrepancies or issues.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for a survey crew.
- Participate in safety briefings and training sessions to maintain a safe work practice.
- Report any safety concerns or hazards to senior crew members or surveyors.
- Participate in training and development activities as directed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some coursework in surveying is preferred but not mandatory.
- Basic knowledge of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment is advantageous.
- 4 years of survey experience is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical stamina and ability to carry and operate surveying equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license.

Success in this job relies on your time management skills, organization, and positive attitude. In addition, you’ll need the following qualifications:
- Perform basic measurements, readings and calculations during surveys.
- Work collaboratively with other crew members and under the guidance of senior crew members or surveyors.
- Assist in the proper documentation and organization of survey data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Actively learn and develop surveying skills and knowledge under he guidance of senior crew members or surveyors
- Seek opportunities to enhance understanding or surveying principles, techniques, and equipment.
