Position Summary:
The Porter at Stony Brook Hospital is an ancillary employee who performs various cleaning tasks, maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in all food service areas. Responsibilities include dishwashing, general sanitation, cleaning, and using kitchen equipment. The Porter may also assist in the service and storage of food.
1199 Union Position: Porters are employees of the Auxiliary Services Association. The 1199 Union provides health and retirement benefits after completion of the probationary period.
**Essential Position: This position is considered "Essential." The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather or other conditions. **
Position Details: Local 1199 Union
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Rate of Pay: $21.77 Hourly (Contractual increases afterward)
Schedule: Weekends and Holidays required. (Availability starting at 4pm)

- Operate and clean assigned equipment per departmental procedures.
- Safely transport garbage and recyclable material to designated areas.
- Accurately deliver food and supplies to identified areas and clean as per departmental policy and procedures.
- Maintain assigned departmental areas in a clean, orderly, and sanitary manner,
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, local, and department and follow directions recommended by manufacturers and per SDS sheets.
- Demonstrate knowledge of infection control.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation, including but not limited to food safety and personal hygiene.
- Complete food temperature control logs as per established protocol.
- Accurately inventory and maintain necessary supplies to ensure efficiency of operation.
- Identify and utilize cleaning chemicals used in the department following the manufacturer's directions and MSDS sheets.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Safety: Follow Association and departmental safety policies and procedures, including occurrence reporting.
- Security: Wear name tag identification and be aware of the role in minimizing security incidents.
- Hazardous Materials and Waste: Demonstrate knowledge of the role of hazardous materials and waste in the hazardous materials and waste program.
- Emergency Preparedness: Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the Emergency Preparedness Program. Participate in disaster drills, as appropriate.
- Utility Systems: Demonstrate knowledge of the department's response to utility failures.
- Infection Control: Follow Association and departmental Infection Control policies and procedures.
