We are seeking an experienced part-time accountant who is looking to become an integral part of the small, dynamic Family Promise of Bergen County team. This position is perfect for someone familiar with non-profit accounting, wants to make a difference, and is looking for a flexible, daytime schedule.
The Accountant reports directly to the Executive Director and works in collaboration with the Board President, Treasurer, Director of Development, and Office Administrator. We are a small but mighty team. Our accountant will work up to 18 hours/week and is expected on-site most days, but there is a possibility for some remote work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Process all accounts payable and accounts receivable, verifying accuracy and completeness of vendor payments and check requests.
· Process checks, ACH receipts and payments, grant receivables and pledges
· Monitor and track Capital Campaign pledges vs receipts
· Record all offline, online, and ACH donations as well as credit card transactions.
· Process journal entries
· Maintain general ledger
· Perform monthly account reconciliations
· Prepare account analyses for balance sheet and P&L
· Reconcile and record payroll transactions accurately and on a timely basis
· Utilize Microsoft Excel to organize and analyze financial data
· Generate reports including quarterly reports, budget forecasting reports, profit/loss reports
· Assist in annual audit and filing of 1099’s
· Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
· Maintain financial document retention files.
· Ensure proper onboarding of new employees in payroll and benefits systems
· Provide general support to employees as it relates to payroll and benefits updates and general information.
· Prepare special reports as requested
· Perform other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
· 3 years of experience in bookkeeping/accounting, preferably in the nonprofit sector
· Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment
· Strong ethical standards and integrity in all business dealings
· Ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
· Sense of humor
JOB LOCATION:
This position requires the role to be on-site at offices in Ridgewood, NJ approximately 20 hours per week.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:
Family Promise of Bergen County is offering an hourly rate of $28/hr based on experience and 401k benefits
