SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a part-time (2 days per week) Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) program in Huntington. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the general care and oversight of the clients’ psychiatric conditions in accordance with the program’s policies and procedures. The Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management and symptom monitoring to adults with serious mental illness.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will prescribe, administer, and monitor medications, including injectable medications in a safe and effective manner.
- Understand medical history, prescribe, and interpret lab work and adjust course of treatment as needed.
- Provide psychiatric evaluations and diagnoses for adults.
- The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will conduct health assessments of adults with potential acute and/or chronic health problems.
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care by collaborating with external providers as needed.
- Collaborate with clients’ families and collateral support to provide counseling and education.
- Participate in team meetings and conferences to ensure an interdisciplinary approach to treatment.
- The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation within the regulatory requirements.
- Identify quality improvement issues and document standards of care and practice.
- Maintain a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice.
- Participate in the evaluation of the cost effectiveness of services provided.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from a Nurse Practitioner Program required. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred.
Current registration, certification, and license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner in New York State required. DEA credentials required.
Minimum of 3 years of prior prescribing experience required. Psychiatric prescribing experience preferred.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required; experience with an EMR preferred.
Excellent time management, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team in providing treatment to persistent, severe mentally ill population required.
