A well-established and growing nonprofit organization in Center City is seeking a Grant Accountant to play a critical role in stewarding public and private funding. This role sits at the intersection of finance, compliance, and program operations, ensuring grant funding is managed accurately, reported properly, and aligned with all regulatory and funder requirements.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Analyze active grants and contracts to ensure compliance with GAAP, funder guidelines, and internal policies
- Review grant agreements to interpret funding terms, reporting timelines, and allowable cost structures
- Prepare and review journal entries related to grant revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and cost allocations
- Collaborate closely with development, compliance, and program leadership to support accurate financial reporting
- Prepare, submit, and reconcile grant billings while tracking collections and resolving payment issues
- Maintain detailed schedules for grant receivables and reconcile balances to the general ledger
- Produce funder-specific financial reports and support budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Build and maintain tracking tools for grants with multiple funding sources and cost allocation requirements
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and grant documentation
- Serve as a key contact for auditors and funding agencies on financial compliance matters
- Contribute to the review and enhancement of accounting policies and internal controls
- Assist with special projects and other grant-related financial analysis as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- 2 years of experience in grant accounting
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting
- Solid understanding of revenue recognition for grants, contracts, and restricted funding
- Experience preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and audit support schedules
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct or MIP
- Strong analytical thinking, organization, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with cross-functional teams
Salary : $50,000 - $60,000
