What are the responsibilities and job description for the Routing Specialist position at Fort Mill School District 4?
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Description of Position: Working under the direct supervision of the Director of Transportation, the Routing Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining safe and accurate bus routes for regular and special education students.
Essential Functions:
- Develops efficient bus routes, verifies information, and ensures communication with stakeholders.
- Maintains accurate route descriptions for all routes throughout the year.
- Maintains routing software and website with current routing information.
- Prepares and transmits data reports to SCDOE by due dates and upon request.
- Reviews locations of student stops and lengths of ride.
- Makes recommendations for improving route efficiencies.
- Maintains assorted electronic data on routes, equipment, employees, and student information.
- Interacts and maintains open and positive communications with transportation staff, school administration and parents on a routine basis.
- Understands and follows FMSD policies, safety guidelines, SCDOE guidelines and DOT procedures related to routing of school buses.
- Remain technically current and competent by learning new technologies and or software as required by the position.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Serves as a driver when needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Management Team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Must hold and maintain a valid CDL with P & S endorsement and a current South Carolina school bus driver certification or the ability to obtain within the first few months of employment
- Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience with use of computer and related technology (use of e-mail, networks, and Microsoft Office or comparable office suite).
- Must possess strong organizational, problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills in both written and oral formats.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to work well under stressful situations and under minimal Must be willing to work extended hours when needed. (Student needs, routing needs, deadlines, etc.)
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or higher
- Pupil transportation experience
- Experience in transportation routing, policies, and procedures
- Experience with pupil transportation routing software
- Experience with Geo Mapping
Terms of Employment: 240 days, 8 hours per day, Non-exempt, FMSD S3a Salary Schedule. Initial Placement on the schedule is based on a formula that considers background, education, and experience.
Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Supervisor and in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy.
