Description
Position Summary — The Transport Specialist transports passengers, including those with special needs, the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, when accompanied by an adult rider, to appointments in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner. Transport Specialists may also be asked to transport goods, including hot and cold food items, clothing items, and other miscellaneous items. The Transport Specialist transports children from school to their childcare after-school program and ensures the safety of the passengers while in a childcare bus or other vehicle. The Specialist adheres to safety rules and assists passengers in boarding and exiting the bus or vehicle when necessary.
Essential Functions —
- Operate motor vehicles of varying sizes
- Maintain confidentiality
- Comply with safety rules and traffic regulations
- Perform vehicle inspection sheet for mechanical and/or safety issues
- Maintain daily reports and ensure they are turned in for accurate recording
- Collect fares from customers
- Maintain contact with scheduler throughout the day via phone or message
- Clean and sanitize vehicles
- Report noncompliant passengers
- Report safety concerns or mechanical concerns
- Transport groups, such as childcare and seniors groups, on trips as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned

Experience
- Prior transit driving experience, preferred
- Prior customer service experience, preferred
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement
- Ability to pass DOT physical for DOT Certification
- Insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work flexible or extended hours when needed
- Ability to attend training and classes when needed
- Ability to use GPS
- Ability to operate lift or ramp
- Ability to properly secure a wheelchair
Work Environment & Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend so as to open/use lower drawers or cabinetry; to talk, hear, and see. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
