Description:
The Dental Assistant's responsibilities are to provide direct patient care, assist the health care provider in providing quality health care, and work to improve health outcomes. The Dental Assistant must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies and conduct patient education. This position is also responsible for specific duties as assigned by the Dentist/Dental Director.
The Dental Assistant is also responsible for patient check-in/out of the operatory, set up and break down of the operatory, and verifying operatories are stocked with supplies and thoroughly cleaned/disinfected following each patient encounter. The Dental Assistant may also be responsible for answering the phones, scheduling appointments, and managing front desk activities as deemed necessary by supervising staff (dentist/dental director).
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Dental Assistant Job Responsibilities: supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments, and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the standards and general dental practice acts. Qualifications:
- Must be a high school graduate or GED equivalent
- Knowledge of dental terminology-numbering of teeth and name of tooth surfaces
- CPR/BLS certification
- Radiology Certification. Will provide upon hire if needed
- Essential Technical/Motor skills: ability to verbally communicate, strong organization skills, inputting data/typing, copying, speaking clearly, answering phones, precise eye/hand/foot coordination, fingering/fine dexterity, handling/gripping
- Essential Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds on occasion, pushing, balancing, stooping, flexing/positioning/twisting, holding reaching, repetitive activity, ability to spend most of the day either walking or standing
- Essential Mental Abilities: memory, basic calculations, communication, assessing/evaluating, problem-solving/reasoning
- Must be able to tolerate potentially visually disturbing images such as but not limited to blood, infection, and trauma to tissue, teeth, and bone
- Proficient in Spanish highly preferred, but not required
- Must be able to follow all HIPAA and OSHA guidelines
Other: Must be able to work flexible hours. Must have good listening skills and teamwork, good chairside manner, health promotion and maintenance minded, and the ability to perform diagnostic radiographic procedures.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Dental Director and/or Staff Dentist
