What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extruder Operator position at Fromm Family Foods?
We are seeking an Extruder Operator who will be responsible for assisting the Lead Extruder Operator in the operation of the extruder and related processes. The focus will be to provide assistance in all functions of extruder operation in the production of high-quality pet food.
Essential Functions:
1. Prepare and transfer liquids and other ingredients as necessary for the upcoming run.
2. Assist in the start-up, change-over and shutdown of the extruder in accordance with standard operating procedures and as directed by the Lead Extruder Operator.
3. Control the operation of various downstream processes as directed by the production schedule. Conduct various quality checks of finished product according to established procedures and communicate any variances to Lead Operator and Supervisor as appropriate.
4. Become knowledgeable of the operation of the Extruder, providing coverage for scheduled breaks by the Lead Operator - and if requested by supervision, perform the duties of back-up operator for scheduled time off.
5. Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly extrusion area, dryer area and downstream areas through continuous housekeeping efforts.
6. Perform various pre-shift and post-shift sanitation duties according to established procedures. Ensure compliance with all haccp, quality and food safety requirements, including accurate and timely documentation. Fill out all paperwork and production documentation completely and accurately.
7. Communicate with the blending, meat room, packaging, and maintenance departments as the need arises.
8. Maintain consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality. Remain flexible to fluctuations in shift start and end times to support the priorities of the department. Ensure efficient transitions coming in to and going out of shift, by sharing key points verbally if possible – or in writing.
9. Must be able to lift 50 pounds routinely, climb, bend and use tools of various types in basic maintenance and trouble-shooting tasks.
10. Abide by all safety rules, company policies, and complete all required safety training within the department.
Physical Requirements:
1. Lift up to 50 lbs on a continuous basis, from floor level to top of pallet (up to 84”)
2. Bend, Push/Pull, Squat, Reach, Grip, Grab, Hold various products, packaging, and tools.
3. Perform repetitive motions for assigned tasks.
4. Stand for duration of shift (other than departmental approved breaks)
5. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Able to work at elevated levels.
6. Able to work in various temperatures including extreme heat, humidity and cold.
7. Able to work in an environment containing dust and potential allergens, and smells.
8. Able to perform basic visual requirements, read small print and differentiate colors.
9. Understand and communicate basic verbal and written instructions and respond to questions.
10. Able to perform basic math calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
11. Work a minimum of 40 hours per week, plus overtime to meet department goals.
12. Basic mechanical aptitude, and ability and knowledge to use tools and equipment.
13. Ability to drive forklift and scissors lift.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
