Position Summary
The Frye Art Museum seeks a Security Officer to join the Security Department in providing a safe environment for museum employees and visitors and to safeguard the fine art and equipment by protecting the Museum from theft, and other types of danger.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitors the Museum exhibition galleries to maintain the safety of patrons, staff, and artwork.
- Patrols the Museum collections, equipment, buildings, and grounds to prevent and protect against theft, vandalism, hazards, or threats.
- Rotates as Concierge at the Information Desk.
- Reports changes or physical interactions to artwork, ensuring that logs are properly maintained.
- Monitors the camera and alarm systems.
- Control and monitor access/keys to secured areas, including checking in and logging staff and guests/vendors at the staff entrance, and check bags upon check out.
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency situations by assisting patrons and staff and contributes to the coordination of a quick and effective solution.
- Oversees loading dock activity, deliveries, and shipments, including art shipments.
- Provide security and supervision during museum after-hour events as needed while collaborating with the Events, Exhibitions, and Facilities Departments.
- Performs the necessary activity to open and close the museum.
- Enforce all Museum policies in the galleries and other public areas.
- Participate in staff wide Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion and Belonging (DEAIB) training to contribute to an inclusive space for visitors and to implement relevant strategies and best practices in this role.
- As an essential employee, must be reliable and punctual.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must sufficiently pass a background check.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written form.
- Able to respectfully engage with the public and staff while enforcing Museum policies.
- Must be attentive and professional in appearance and in all interactions.
- Ability to multitask, operate as part of a team, and calmly respond to stressful situations.
- Adaptable to a flexible weekly work schedule, including weekends and evenings.
Desired Education/Experience
- High School level education or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience in security services, or customer service preferred.
*Union affiliation: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between the Frye Art Museum and the Art Workers Union. Both you and Frye Art Museum are bound by the terms of the agreement.

Working Conditions
Work areas are inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites. Shift times may vary to meet the Museum's requirement to staff the facilities at all hours. Work may require weekend hours and extended periods of attendance at museum events.
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside and outside the museum.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Have the ability to move boxes, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across the museum for various needs.
- The ability to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
