What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Records Associate position at Garden State Orthopaedic Associates?
Under the direction of a manager and licensed health professionals, provide quick, efficient, and proficient means for the management and release of protected health information (PHI). The medical records specialist is a direct contact to both the patient and the medical facility and provide the necessary documentation for the patient.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Understand and abide by all HIPAA privacy and security laws.
- Interpret and apply HIPAA rules to release of protected health information requests.
- Validate all incoming requests for PHI.
- Verify patient information using key identifiers.
- Verify requesting party contact information including fax number or address.
- Provide attention and care to patients and patient representatives.
- Processing medical records.
- Handling MACRA requirements.
- Check voicemails and return calls on at least a daily basis.
Minimum Skills / Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate Degree preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word
- Working knowledge of health services industry strongly recommended including knowledge of medical terminology and a familiarity with ICD10 and CPT codes
- Customer oriented and professional disposition
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, reading comprehension, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to self-manage
- Detail oriented with an ability to accept and respond to changes
- Experience accessing, navigating and data entering into computerized databases
