What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney 1 position at Georgia Department of Corrections?
The Georgia Department of Corrections seeks to fill a vacancy for an attorney in the Office of Legal Services. Legal Services assists the Commissioner and staff with transactional legal issues that arise in the operation of the States prison system. Areas of practice include contracts, employment law, constitutional law and civil rights, administrative law, and healthcare. Legal Services also liaises with the Attorney General's Office on pending litigation against the agency and GDC employees, and we handle all requests for access to public documents under the Open Records Act. This position may be filled as an Attorney 1, Attorney 2, Attorney 3, or Attorney 4 depending upon the applicant's credentials.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity (must obtain Law License).

- Experience working in a law office representing a governmental entity.
- Experience dealing with requests for documents under the Open Records Act.
- Experience working in a correctional or law enforcement setting.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing pleadings, subpoenas, and similar documents.
- Employment law experience.
- Civil rights law experience.
- Experience providing instruction to adults in a classroom setting.
