We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Youth Peer Support Specialist in Kentucky to provide support and guidance to young individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges. Use your lived experiences to inspire hope, resilience, and recovery while fostering empowerment and life skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct, individualized support to youth in recovery.
- Facilitate individual and group therapeutic activities to promote healing and growth.
- Share personal recovery experiences to build trust, confidence, and hope.
- Assist youth in setting and achieving life goals through recovery-oriented strategies.
- Collaborate with diverse individuals and groups to promote inclusivity and empowerment.
- Develop and lead workshops that focus on advocacy, life skills, and personal growth.
- Educate participants on mental health and substance use topics.
- Support youth engagement in classroom settings (grades K-12) and community programs.
- Model recovery-oriented behaviors and teach effective coping and communication skills.
- Document client progress and collaborate with treatment teams to ensure high-quality care.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- Must be aged 18-35.
- Lived experience with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders and demonstrated active recovery.
- Received state-funded services from a child-serving agency.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of KFLA training approved by the department.
- Proven experience with leadership and advocacy in behavioral health.
- Strong ability to work independently, manage stress, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to complete a criminal history background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enthusiastic, team-oriented, flexible, and creative approach to youth development.
- Strong writing, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and stress management.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
