Description
General Definition:
- Responsible for the operations of the jockeys' room and jockeys.
Essential Job Functions:
- Verifies the presence of all jockeys in the jockeys' room at the appointed time.
- Verifies that all jockeys have a current jockey's license issued by the commission.
- Verifies the correct weight of jockey at the time of weighing out and weighing in and reports any discrepancies to the stewards immediately.
- Oversees the security of the jockeys' room including the conduct of jockeys and their attendants.
- Reports to the stewards any infractions of the rules with respect to weight, weighting, riding equipment, or conduct.
- Records all required data on the scale sheet and submits the data to the horsemen's bookkeeper at the end of each race.
- Maintains the record of applicable winning races on all apprentice certificates in the meet.
- Release apprentice jockey certificates, upon the jockey's departure or upon the conclusion of the race meet.
- Assumes the duties of the jockey Room custodian in the absence of such employee.
- Ensures the safekeeping of all racing colors.
- Reports all color changes or jockey changes from that listed in the official program and causing same to be posted and announced before each race.
- Supervises all valets and the issuance of numbered saddle cloths and equipment for each horse. Ensures the accuracy of the scales and the periodic tests thereof.
- Transmits to the Stewards all complaints, protests, objections, or disputes.
- Alerts valets in the event of a claim to see that horse is returned to the paddock after the race to transfer ownership.
- Maintains a film list of riders whom the Stewards feel should review such films.
- Assists, as required, in the daily operation of the racing office.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5 years related experience and/or training; or combination.

- Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.

- Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment

- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
Training:
- 2 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
