Primary purpose is to provide translation and interpreter services, both written and oral to Spanish speaking patients, their families, and staff for the Diagnostic Imaging department. Represents GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties for patients/families, physicians, visitors and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct. Participates in the Performance Improvement Process. Maintains quality and efficiency standards as set by immediate supervisor. Makes recommendations for improvements. Participates in activities which promote professional growth and self-development. Attends pertinent in-services, departmental and other meetings as requested by immediate supervisor. Adheres to GSHCS professional dress code. Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) when appropriate.
Maintains a constant awareness of communication issues in providing care at GSMG clinic and demonstrates this in decisions related to patient care and job performance. Maintains a thorough knowledge of patient confidentiality, and exercises judgment and genuine concern for patient’s ability to communicate effectively with medical provider. Confirms patient understanding by having them repeat back instructions. Follows Hospital principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates that knowledge in assisting patients within GSHCS policies and procedures. Complies with adopted GSHCS and department policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Education: Associates degree or technical training as an interpreter preferred. Requires a diploma or GED.
- Certification: Certification as a medical translator preferred. Current CPR/BLS, or eligible.
- Experience: One year or more of experience in a health care or human services setting.
- Job Knowledge: Must demonstrate a fluency in the Spanish and English languages. Knowledge of medical terminology and interpreting and translating skills desired.
- Skills Required: Must pass a written Spanish medical terminology assessment and interpreting skills evaluation. Must also have excellent customer service and communication skills. Strong medical terminology background desired.
- Physical Requirements: Good general health. Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach. Frequent standing and/or walking

Working Conditions:
Clean, well-lighted and ventilated work area. Position requires mostly day shifts but also requires availability on all other shifts. Weekend work may be included
