POSITION TITLE: TEACHER’S AIDE (Part Time)
DEPARTMENT: EARLY CHILDHOOD
LOCATION(S): BROOKLYN / MANHATTAN
REPORTS TO: SITE DIRECTOR
SALARY RANGE: 15,700.00 – 16,200.00 (20 HRS)
DATE: April 1, 2022
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8 am-12 pm, or 2 am-6 pm. Schedule may vary due to program needs.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position serves as a Teacher Aide for coverage in the classroom of 8-20 children as needed. Teacher Aide assists the classroom in planning and supervising children according to Head Start Performance Standards and DOHMH Article 47 regulations to implement classroom activities, works cooperatively and supports all program staff and with the general maintenance of the classroom to insure the health and safety of the children in the program.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum – High School Diploma or equivalence and some college credits or Child Development Associate (CDA) preferred
- Experience working with young children
- Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social or cultural needs
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to foster and maintain positive, professional relationships with staff and participants
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Center Director, the Teacher Aide shall be responsible for:
- Assisting in the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment in accordance with Department of Health and Head Start requirements
- Assisting and supporting staff in the planning and implementation of programming that takes into account the emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and language developmental and health needs of the individual child as well as the group
- Working cooperatively with the teacher and coordinator to ensure the children’s goals and objectives are met
- Maintaining confidentiality of family records, written and verbal information, including child behavior and parent communication
- Notifying the Lead Teacher of any concerns or observations of child health and behavior
- Participating in ongoing observation and assessments of children’s health, behavior and development in keeping with identified Early Head Start and Grand Street Settlement policies and practices.
- Consulting with teacher prior to communicating information about individual children to parents
- Follow applicable state regulations and agency policies regarding the prevention and reporting of child maltreatment.
- Participate in coaching opportunities, professional development trainings, staff and other appropriate meetings and reflective supervision sessions.
- Participate in annual performance evaluation to set short and long term professional goals.
- Being able to lift up to 35 pounds
- Practice positive teacher- child relationships including but not limited to working and speaking with children face- to- face at their level
- Flexible schedule to cover for staff as needed
- Other duties and special projects as required
