MSW Assistant Professor of Social Work Job Description (Full-time, 8 Month Position, Tenure Track):

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.

Candidates must have at least two years post-master’s social work degree practice experience.

Candidates must be able to teach courses across the social work curriculum at both the MSW and BSW level, although principal assignment will be to the master’s program. Must be willing to teach in face-to-face and online/blended platforms, during the day and evening, and if necessary, interdisciplinary courses.

Candidates must demonstrate ongoing professional development as teachers, scholars, and practitioners through activities that support the program’s missions and goals. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to advising and student engagement to support academic success.

Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate must have proven ability to work with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds and identities in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Applicant’s letter of interest must include a statement regarding specific efforts to cultivate a more diverse and inclusive educational environment, including specific strategies for embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into curriculum.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who will have an earned doctorate in social work or related field by fall 2024.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the graduate level, and familiarity with face-to-face and blended/online platforms.

Special consideration given to qualified candidates who reflect minoritized populations.

Interest in teaching courses associated with administration and leadership in social work practice and research a plus; or courses associated with clinical practice.

Priority given to candidates with interest in teaching courses associated with clinical practice.

Duties

The selected candidate will serve as an instructor in the MSW program, teaching courses across the curriculum at the micro, mezzo, and macro level. The teaching load is 12 credits each fall and spring semester, in a combination of face-to-face and blended/online formats carried out in day and evening schedules. Summer teaching may be expected. The candidate will participate in activities serving the department, such as student advising, and contributing to departmental decisions and program development. The candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarship endeavors and participate in activities serving the university and community.
