About The Role
(This is an on-site position, located in West Lafayette, IN)
- As the Staff Accountant, you will be an integral part of our property management team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and supporting accounting operations across a diverse portfolio of student housing and residential properties, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data in compliance with company policies and accounting standards. We are seeking someone who is accountable, responsible and a great addition to our team. - Work Closely with the Sr. Vice President of Accounting to support Granite Management
- Lead the financial statement production for the Granite Corporate and Markets.
- Assist with preparation of the individual property financials.
- Maintain solid Balance Sheet documentation for key properties.
- Oversee the depreciation, bad debt, and security deposit reconciliations.
- Assist Accounting team with Bank Reconciliations and Loan Reconciliations.
- Assist organization with establishing a robust financial review of all department offerings.
- Additional items of Period Closing Procedures, Property Management Fee review vs the PMA, Suspense Account reconciliations.
- Assist in other Accounting Department areas as determined needed.
- Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures.
- Reconcile bank accounts, tenant accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Record and track income, expenses, and accruals related to property operations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Analyze variances and prepare reports on budget-to-actual results.
- Support property managers with financial inquiries and provide accurate financial data.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for properties.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant regulations.
- Coordinate with external auditors and prepare supporting documentation as needed.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation calculations.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, AppFolio, or similar).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multiple entity environment with interruptions.
- Ability to prioritize issues as they arise and communicate.
- AppFolio Software Experience desirable, but not required.
