Position: Food Service Coordinator 

Department: Food Service 

Reports To: Executive Director


 Job Summary 

The Food Service Coordinator supports the daily food service operations of Center for Hope's two emergency shelters--CFH-Carlisle and CFH-Tioga/Simpkins House nursing nutritious meals are planned, prepared, and served in accordance with regulatory guidelines. The role includes responsibilities such as menu development, food procurement and storage, kitchen sanitation, meal preparation support, and documentation for compliance. This position plays a key administrative and operational role in ensuring food security and safety for residents, with limited involvement in direct cooking duties.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

Food Service Operations

  •  Plan and publish weekly menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that meet all nutritional guidelines outlined by the Office of Homeless Services.
  • Coordinate food service logistics to ensure timely and consistent meal delivery at both shelter sites.
  • Prepare weekday lunch and dinner meals as needed, following the published menu
  • Organize and stage breakfast meals for distribution by shelter staff .

Procurement, Inventory & Storage 

  • Order and purchase food, supplies, and other goods to maintain adequate stock levels for both shelters.
  • Receive and inspect food deliveries; store items appropriately in compliance with food safety regulations. ·
  • Monitor pantry and storage areas to ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper rotation of food items.
  • Discard expired or spoiled items in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Complete food pick-ups from local partners, food banks, or donors using a company vehicle when needed. 

Compliance & Recordkeeping 

  • Maintain required documentation, including meal counts, menus, delivery logs, and receipts.
  • Keep recipe records for all food items purchased and prepared.
  • In conjunction with case management, maintain medically necessary diet accommodation request in line agency protocols.
  • Track cleaning and maintenance checklists for kitchen and pantry equipment. 

Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation 

  • Clean the kitchen and dining areas after meal services.
  • Ensure all food is handled and stored in accordance with agency standards and applicable health regulations.
  • Report any maintenance issues or supply needs. 

Additional Duties 

  • Attend required agency meetings, trainings, and inspections related to food service and shelter operations.
  • Provide kitchen orientation to new staff as needed.
  • Support other shelter operations as assigned.

Qualifications

  •  High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of experience in food service, meal planning, or institutional cooking.
  • ServSafe® certification or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of nutrition standards and food safety practices.
  • Experience in food purchasing, inventory control, and basic kitchen administration.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and safely climb ladders for storage access.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Compassionate and respectful approach to working with individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Previous experience in a social services or shelter setting is beneficial. 

Certifications & Training (Required To Be Obtained) 

  • ServSafe® Certification (renewed every 5 years)
