What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Support Technician position at Greenfield-Central Cmty School District?

Responsible for providing skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with autism, serious emotional disabilities and other developmental disabilities in the school setting, under the direction of a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). The Behavior Support Technician (BST)  will collect data on programs and assist with academic, developmental, and social skills assessments as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Task Completion

  • Provide direct student instruction, and assist staff with implementation, in one-on-one and group settings. Follow prescribed behavior skills acquisition and behavior change protocols. Assist with preparing materials as necessary. 

  • Prepare, collect, analyze data on observable student behavior. 

  • Use data to assist with implementation of skill acquisition and behavioral assessments. 

  • Document interventions, progress data, and observation notes

  • Keeps records in a timely and accurate manner including, but not limited to, Medicaid, session notes, student attendance, and communication logs, 

  • Participate in trainings as necessary

  • Demonstrates reliability (attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines)

  • Demonstrates skill and proficiency in carrying out assignments. 

  • Possesses skills and knowledge to perform the job competently, including but not limited to

    • planning 

    • organizing

    • prioritizing workload 

    • ability to work independently

    • self accountability for assigned responsibilities

    • timely task completion

  • Complete in-person and online training as assigned.

  • Implement crises/emergency procedures according to protocol.   

Collaboration and Communication

  • Report to Behavior Support Coordinator regarding student progress and to gain training and understanding of behavior support protocols.

  • Communicate with staff regarding student progress as instructed by the BCBA. Collaborate with school teams and collaborate and contribute to IEPs and  meetings as necessary. 

  • Communicates effectively with supervisor, peers, and stakeholders

  • Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with supervision or as part of a team

  • Possesses adeptness at analyzing facts, problem solving, decision making, and demonstrating good judgment

  • Displays fairness towards all colleagues and students

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.

  • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.

  • Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.

  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas as assigned.

  • Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

  •  Support all schoolwide and classroom instructional and behavioral supports. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students,  including those with disabilities or other special needs.

  • Demonstrates ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Google Docs).

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.

  • Demonstrates ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students.

  • Possesses effective writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions 

  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations 

  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly  

  • Ability to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job 

  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, and supervisors

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior experience working with children, preferred.

  • EITHER Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) certification, OR desire to work toward receiving RBT certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to lift and/or carry  25 lbs. 

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 

  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter. 

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 

  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation. 

  • Ability to operate office equipment. 

  • Ability to reach in all directions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

·          182 Days per School Year

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluations of Classified Personnel.

PAY RANGE:

$22 - 25 per hour
