What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Kitchen Educator position at Grimm Family Education Foundation?
Reports to: ESYKC Site Manager
Position Summary:
The Edible Schoolyard Part-Time Kitchen Educator is involved in teaching kitchen classes when needed. He/She will be involved in the care and upkeep of the kitchen classroom and may be asked to occasionally assist in the educational garden as well. Looking for someone with a very flexible schedule.
This position will be 28 hours or less per week. Looking for candidate with availability Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Kitchen:
- Helps to maintain order & cleanliness of Kitchen
- Assists in setting up for lessons
- Teaches kitchen classes; guiding students through lesson, recipe execution and clean up
- Executes grade appropriate kitchen skills, activities, and lessons
- Maintains kitchen inventory
All Part-Time Staff Will:
- Participate in the implementation, set up and teaching of daily lessons
- Help maintain facilities and equipment
- May be asked to attend scheduled ESYKC professional development days, meetings, and special events
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with elementary school students in an educational setting
- Ability to maintain order and safe working practices in a garden setting with young students
- Knowledge of the principles of gardening
- Knowledge of effective and efficient kitchen techniques
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of constituents including students, co-workers, parents, teachers, volunteers and visitors
- Ability to work collaboratively
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience in a culinary or kitchen setting
- Educational background in agriculture, horticulture, or multiple seasons of gardening
- Experience working with elementary school aged students preferred
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in summer heat (100° )
- Ability to stand, stoop, reach, and bend. Mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects
- Ability to stand for long periods and walk long distances
- Ability to lift, push and/or pull objects (up to approximately fifty pounds)
- Ability to read small print
- Ability to work with and in the proximity of equipment with moving mechanical parts
- Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment
- Ability to smell, taste and feel to determine the quality of raw food products
Ability to work around loud noise
