The High School Assistant Principal supports the Principal in fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment that promotes the success of all students. The role involves leadership in instructional programs, student discipline, staff evaluation and support, and fostering strong relationships among students, staff, families, and the community. The Assistant Principal also serves as acting Principal in the Principal’s absence.

Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Leadership
•Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs that meet the diverse needs of all students.
•Support the implementation of federal, state, and local educational initiatives.
•Collaborate on the selection of instructional materials and use data analysis to improve student outcomes.
•Evaluate educators in accordance with the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Framework.
•Participate in the orientation and mentoring of new staff.
•Assist in the development of the master schedule, including student scheduling.
School Climate and Culture
•Promote a positive school culture through policies and practices that support student growth, equity, and engagement.
•Provide leadership in areas such as student attendance, discipline, counseling, and academic performance.
•Oversee the consistent implementation of discipline procedures in alignment with the Student Handbook.
•Develop proactive and restorative strategies for students exhibiting at-risk behaviors.
•Collaborate with the School Resource Officer (SRO) and external support agencies to address student needs.
•Support schoolwide initiatives related to culture and climate, curriculum alignment, and transitional programming (e.g., transition from 8th to 9th grade).
Family and Community Engagement
•Build and maintain positive relationships with parents, guardians, and community members.
•Respond to family concerns with empathy and professionalism.
•Participate in school events such as back-to-school nights, parent conferences, and after-school activities.
•Promote strong school-family partnerships through regular communication and collaborative problem-solving.
Administrative Support
•Assist in managing the school budget and allocating resources effectively.
•Coordinate student supervision during lunch, arrival, and dismissal times.
•Provide support to substitute teachers to ensure instructional continuity.
•Assist in the implementation of standardized assessments and other testing programs.
•Attend district-level meetings, school council sessions, and professional development opportunities.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
•Act as Principal in the Principal’s absence.
