What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Building Attendant position at Gwinnett County?
The Part-Time Building Attendant position is responsible for maintaining outdoor grounds and landscaping, as well as building facilities, to ensure safety and presentability to the public. Additional duties for this position include cleaning and making minor repairs to equipment and facilities (as needed), communicating with visitors and guests, and representing the department during tours or events.
Essential Duties
- Mowing, edging, and trimming lawns around the facility using push and riding mowers, trimmers, and blowers
- Maintaining landscaped areas by pruning shrubs and trees, pulling weeds, and applying fertilizers or approved herbicides
- Performing routine maintenance on groundskeeping equipment such as sharpening blades, checking fluids, and cleaning tools
- Inspecting and maintaining outdoor spaces to ensure public safety by clearing debris, repairing fencing, and reporting hazards
- Collecting and disposing of trash from parking lots, walkways, and building entrances
- Assisting with custodial tasks inside the facility, including mopping, sweeping, and stocking supplies as needed
- Supporting event setup and takedown, including moving tables, chairs, and other equipment for internal and public programs
- Performing minor facility maintenance tasks such as basic carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs under supervision
- Responding to work orders or supervisor requests promptly and professionally, maintaining flexibility in daily tasks
- Collaborating with team members and other departments to complete special projects, seasonal work, and emergency
repairs
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
- This position requires regular outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
This position pays $16.80 per hour, up to 29 hours per week (not to exceed 1,508 hours per year).
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- High school diploma/GED
- 2 years of grounds maintenance experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Degree or certification in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or Facilities Management
