What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Counselor position at GWYNEDD MERCY UNIVERSITY?

As an Admissions Counselor, you will serve as an enthusiastic and knowledgeable ambassador for the University in the recruitment of first-year and/or transfer students within an assigned territory. Your goal will be to build relationships with prospective students and families to ensure they have accurate and personalized information, and clearly understand the value of earning a degree from GMercyU. As a GMercyU Admissions Counselor, you will wholeheartedly embrace the department?s quality standards of accuracy, engagement, hospitality, and efficiency to ensure students have an excellent experience at each stage of the admissions process. This position requires some travel and night and weekend work.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Serve as an enthusiastic and knowledgeable ambassador for the University and its many curricular and co-curricular programs


Develop a recruitment territory as assigned, including traveling to various high schools, colleges and other locations for planned events


Develop relationships with high school counselors, teachers, administrators, college officials, businesses, community members, and other influencers in order to promote the University and grow enrollment

Interview prospective students; review and maintain applicant files; make decisions and/or recommendations regarding admissibility; determine merit scholarship eligibility; disseminate information to applicants and family members; and promptly respond to questions

Actively follow-up on leads and inquiries for potential students and coordinate efforts for prospective students/families to meet with faculty and other staff who can address their specific areas of interest
Participate in the planning and organization of special events related to the recruitment of students
Serve on appropriate university committees
Valid driver's license required


QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree required. One year of sales and/or admissions recruitment experience preferred.

Technical Skills
Proficiency with a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet creation and management and data base management.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret professional journals; ability to communicate information about Gwynedd Mercy University to diverse populations. Excellent writing and public speaking skills. Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to work with statistical information.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logic and problem solving to a wide range of problems. Individual must be able to think critically.

Interpersonal Skills
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with others. Ability to be self-directed and work independently is essential, along with the ability to work as an enthusiastic part of a team.
