What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Construction Superintendent position at H.B. Construction, Inc.?
Provide overall on-site leadership and management for grading/heavy construction projects. Plan, coordinate, and supervise onsite functions including scheduling, material control, and day-to-day direction of field personnel.
Essential Functions
- Directly supervise activities of operators and laborers; planning work schedules. Monitor employees job performance and wage/time entry compliance. Interview and recommend new hire applicants.
- Review and monitor cost and man-hour budget and develops a staff and equipment requirement plan.
- Communicate with project manager to coordinate various phases of construction to prevent delays.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, etc. to resolve job progress, invoice/purchase order issues.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.
- Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports or communicated by project manager.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- 3 years of industry related experience. Previous superintendent experience in site grading/heavy civil construction; including mass excavations, embankments, hauling, back-filling, compaction, soil stabilization, grading and testing, and placement of transported materials preferred.
- Must be able to read blueprints.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to understand work directions; communicate effectively with job site operators, project managers and office staff.
- Must have excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Work Environment
Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions and near mechanical moving parts. Possible exposure to distracting/uncomfortable noise levels and vibration. Possible exposure to fumes or airborne particles that may affect respiration and skin.
Physical Demands
Sitting, standing, walking, driving, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Expected Hours of Work and Travel
Full-time. Overtime as necessary. Must be available to work Monday-Friday. Must have reliable transportation and liability insurance to travel to local work sites. Company work vehicle will be provided.
Work Authorization
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
