SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Audio-visual Support Technician provides setup and support of all instructional technology on campus. The technician works with faculty and Learning Technology staff to meet immediate instructional needs. The position provides evening Learning Technology coverage.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- The Audio-Visual Support Technician reports directly and is responsible to the Audio-Visual Technology Manager.
- The Audio-Visual Support Technician works with faculty, WSCE instructors, and any other college staff, outside agencies, and groups using instructional equipment.
- The Audio-Visual Support Technician may share responsibility of assigned LT student workers on duty during the same hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Respond to faculty and staff calls and e-mails for assistance with instructional equipment: main campus, satellite locations, and remotely.
- Set up and tear down equipment according to the LT department schedule.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instructional equipment including software configuration/programming of Extron touch panels
- Enter data into the department inventory database regarding the purchase of new equipment, use of spare parts, etc.
- Provide technology training on classroom equipment and instructional software for faculty and staff.
- Provide technical support for specific events on campus.
- Videotape and edit classroom demonstrations and special events on campus.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
An associate degree is required; two years’ experience in the operation and troubleshooting of classroom equipment. Must have experience working with Zoom, Microsoft Office 365 suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, live video streaming software, and screen capturing software. Preference is given to applicants with Extron certifications.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good organizational skills; ability to operate and troubleshoot technical equipment used in audio-visual settings; competence in the use of computers and standard educational software; ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of staff and students; ability to handle stressful situations; ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing demands. Ability to work under pressure is required for classes and special events to run smoothly.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- This is a high stress position involving constant interaction with the faculty, staff, students, and others regarding classroom technology. Combination of working in the office and working campus-wide with frequent job-related interruptions. Some heavy lifting during transportation and placement of equipment; occasional eyestrain from substantial computer usage.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule. Evening and some weekend hours required. Work schedule will be set according to department needs and variations in the academic year, though efforts will be made to ensure regularity.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
